When & How to Use Fantasy

How to Use Fantasy

When it comes to fiction, fantasy has consistently been a wildly trendy genre of film, television, theater, comics, and most importantly, literature. It is attractive for both authors and audiences because of how easily it can be incorporated into of any type of fictitious story—any tale can be made into a fantasy by integrating supernatural or magical elements. In essence it can be added to any storyline, setting, character trait, etc; in fact, the only thing that can limit what is possible through fantasy is the author’s imagination.

When to Use Fantasy

Fantasy is an amazing form to take advantage of in both literature and on screen, because as mentioned above, it can be successfully combined with truly any other type of fiction. Naturally, fantasy can only be used in fiction, as the elements of fantasy are fictitious themselves and thus could not occur in a nonfiction form of writing (biographies, academic papers, etc). Fantasies come in all forms, from horror, to adventure, to comedy, to romance—the possibilities are endless. Naturally, fantasy is also an excellent genre for children; especially children’s literature, whose young readers are at the time in their lives when their imaginations are most active.
